Program Mission

To ensure compliance with local and federal air quality management regulations by supporting responsible operation of air pollution sources, investigating concerns, and providing community education.

Program Description

The Compliance Program ensures that air pollution sources in Washoe County operate in accordance with local and federal air quality regulations. The program oversees a broad range of permitted facilities and activities including various industrial processes, dust-generating activities, asbestos removal, and other regulated emission sources. The core functions of the program are to conduct compliance inspections of regulated facilities, effectively respond to citizen concerns, and conduct fair and consistent enforcement actions. The program plays a critical role in safeguarding public health, ensuring regulatory consistency, and advancing the Washoe County’s commitment to clean air.
