Can you get addicted even if you only vape sometimes?
Yes. Nicotine is highly addictive, and even occasional vaping can lead to cravings and dependence. Not all vapes are supposed to contain nicotine, but many do—even when the label says they don’t. Some products contain more nicotine than a pack of cigarettes, which can make it easier to get hooked without realizing it. Are you hooked on nicotine? Take the quiz.
How can I stop the urge to vape?
Nicotine gum, lozenges, or patches contain small amounts of nicotine to help you quit. This is called “nicotine replacement therapy,” and it can double your chances of quitting and make you more comfortable along the way. Get discounts on gum, lozenges, and nicotine-free flavored toothpicks when you use the EX Program, which provides daily texts and resources for quitting.
Is vaping safer than smoking cigarettes?
Vaping is often marketed as “safer,” but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. Vapes deliver high levels of nicotine and toxic chemicals that can damage your lungs, heart, and brain. In some cases, vaping has been linked to serious illness and even death. Learn more about health risks from the American Lung Association, a trusted resource that also has a self-paced online program for quitting.
How do I pick a quit date?
Choosing a quit date helps you prepare, making it easier to commit to your quit. A good quit date should be specific and close, ideally within one to two weeks. Try to avoid days that are unusually stressful or put you in situations where you’ll be tempted to vape. Writing your quit date down makes the decision concrete and increases your chances of sticking with it. Here are some other steps you can take to prepare for quitting.
Is vaping bad for the environment?
Yes. Most disposable vapes contain lithium batteries, which don’t break down after they’re thrown into landfills. Their plastic parts break down into microplastics, and leftover nicotine and metals pollute soil and water, harming wildlife. Learn about the environmental impact and how to safely dispose of vapes.
Tell Big Tobacco to puff off
Big tobacco makes billions by targeting young people, using flashy ads and sweet flavors to get you to try nicotine. Their goal is simple: get you hooked so they can profit off the addiction they sold you. And the younger they get you, the more money they make off you.
Think vaping helps? Think again.
When you vape to feel calm, you’re actually making things worse. Nicotine is linked to increased anxiety, depression, insomnia, and other mental health issues. Plus, nicotine addiction can cause mood swings, irritability, and difficulty focusing — not to mention its long-term health risks, including lung cancer and heart disease.
With each vape, you trash the planet
Vapes may seem like a cleaner alternative to smoking, but their environmental impact is significant. Disposable vapes and pods are often made with non-biodegradable materials like plastic and lithium batteries. When these vapes are discarded, they break down into microplastics and toxic chemicals that pollute waterways and poison wildlife.
