Filing a Complaint with the Air Quality Management Division (AQMD)

The AQMD investigates complaints related to outdoor air pollution and the improper removal or disposal of Regulated Asbestos-Containing Materials within Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County.

The AQMD focuses on regulating outdoor air quality and does not have the authority to address indoor air quality concerns. Situations involving mold, sewage odors, cigarette or cannabis smoke, or other housing-related conditions are handled by agencies or professionals responsible for building and housing oversight.

The AQMD does not perform indoor air quality sampling or monitoring. If you need indoor air quality testing, please contact an environmental consultant.

When submitting an air quality complaint, please include the following information:

• Describe the air quality concern: What is occurring? Examples may include dust from construction, emissions from a facility, or improper asbestos removal.
• Location: Provide the street address, parcel, or nearest cross street in Reno, Sparks, or Washoe County. For construction related dust complaints, please provide the project name and permit number if they are known.
• Contact information: Providing your contact information may help the AQMD investigate the concern. Anonymous complaints may limit AQMD’s ability to follow-up, and you will not receive a call or email.
