Introduction

Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) Chapter 441A authorizes the Nevada State Board of Health to adopt regulations governing the control of communicable diseases in this state.

The State Board of Health's regulations governing the control of communicable diseases are found in the Nevada Administrative Codes (NAC) Chapter 441A. These regulations mandate public health professionals, medical providers, laboratories and others in Washoe County to report approximately 70 diseases or conditions to the Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) Communicable Disease Program.

All reported information is CONFIDENTIAL.

Why Report?

The primary objectives of disease surveillance are to:

  1. Protect the health of the public;
  2. Determine the extent of morbidity within the community;
  3. Evaluate risk of transmission; and
  4. Intervene rapidly when appropriate.

Obtain Communicable Disease Report Form or call the Communicable Disease Program at 775-328-2447 or fax at 775-328-3764. Reports can be made by FAX or telephone. The FAX and phone are dedicated to communicable disease reporting and are confidential. You may also send an email to epicenter@nnph.org for any questions. However, confidential information should not be reported via email.

Delay or Failure to Report:

Delay or failure to report communicable diseases has contributed to secondary transmission in the past. Under the NRS 441A.430, except as otherwise provided, every person who violates any provision of this chapter is guilty of a misdemeanor.
